EX10 – Online Profiles
PART1 – Avatar
Start this exercise by creating a professional avatar to use in your online social media branding. This could include your art, your face or even perhaps your logo. You may want to use Gravatar.com to set up your universal avatar.
Please upload your final avatar to Dropbox.
PART2 – 3 Major Social Media Sites
You will set up 3 professional social media accounts starting with LinkedIn. Also, set up 2 accounts on the following sites: Facebook, Twitter or Google+. Add your professional description, avatar, information and most importantly your website link. Be sure to customize the links and aliases so they are consistent as possible and this will enhance your brand recognition.
For example if rmcad is your ailis (aka handle, username etc…) You could set up the following:
twitter.com/rmcad
Linkedin.com/in/rmcad
Facebook.com/rmcad
You will want to create links to these profiles from your website/blog.
Make a screenshot of each profile page and post to Dropbox with a caption LINK to the live site. (You may want to do this in a Word Doc or PDF file)
PART3 – 3 External Illustration Profiles
Lastly, you need to cast a wide net on the internet to attract direct linking traffic to your site.
To begin this effort, I want you to 3 external portfolio profiles on 3rd party art/illustration/design sites. These can be any of your professional choosing, some examples would be Behance.net, Coroflot.com, IllustrationMundo.com, Flickr.com, Pinterest.com… There are MANY others, you can see what other illustrators are using for examples. See how these sites are being used to promote illustration work. (more resources here: http://escapefromillustrationisland.com/resources-browse-all). Pinterest and Etsy are good alternatives as well as long as your board or shop is equivalent with your portfolio.
Make sure you include your professional avatar, description, logo, URL and portfolio art where appropriate. Your goal on these sites is to allure people to come see more of your work on your site and to become familiar with your work.
